Autumn and Articles

Maples are turning red at slightly higher elevations. We're sliding right into autumn in Vermont. A sure sign: I'm cooking chili for a potluck dinner tomorrow night. I keep wondering, who speeded up the seasons? And for that matter, the hours in each day?

A friend from Michigan spent a few days visiting and we had a whirlwind of activity. I became a tourist in my own community and saw things I've missed in my first two years here. If you ever visit Burlington between May and October, the Shelburne Museum is well worth a visit. Among its rotating exhibits, we saw a collection of Georgia O'Keefe and another of Tasha Tudor, the famous childrens' book illustrator. The sprawling grounds are also home to a covered bridge, an old apothecary shop, a home from the 1700's complete with a fireplace big enough to sleep in, the steamship Ticonderoga, and much more that we didn't have time to explore.
